The EscaRosa Financial Stability Coalition

Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in Northwest Florida share common geography and social issues – thus motivating business and community groups from both counites to collaborate in finding solutions. Such was the case in 2016, when the EscaRosa Financial Stability Coalition was established as an outgrowth of the ongoing financial literacy awareness programs at Pensacola State College (PSC).

Under the leadership of Jessica Johnson, who served as the AmeriCorps Vista Financial Literacy Specialist from 2016-2019, regional financial institutions and non-profit organizations provided speakers and resources for workshops and activities organized by Ms. Johnson for campus activities on three campuses and with two centers during the annual PSC Money Matters week.

The Coalition, now managed through the United Way of West Florida, consists of community partners who meet monthly to discuss needs and to identify community resources. The mission is to help the local and regional community members make better informed financial decisions, create meaningful discussion around personal finance, and to provide opportunities for the community to learn the skills and knowledge for successfully managing their personal finances, (Retrieved from, June 7. 2021).

PSC staff with Title III: Pirate PATH to Success and the Pirates CARE team participate in the Coalition and attend monthly meetings in support of the overall community mission.
